Ano ba ang "Tambay Kalye"

"Tambay Kalye" is actually two Filipino words: "Tambay" which means to hang around, and "Kalye" which means road. Literally, "Tambay Kalye" is to hang around on the road, or just hanging out. "Tambay" or "Umistambay" is a term rooted from "stand by" or "to stand by" which Filipinos adopted to simply mean to hang out.
Hanging out is something Filipinos love to do. It is the original Filipino social network...long before there was Facebook or even the Internet.
Filipinos of all walks of life hang out on places as varied as their imagination. The most common hang-outs of course are...roadside stalls. That "carinderia" (roadside eatery) just outside the school gate is the "tambayan" (hang-out) of students after class. The "barberya" (barber shop) is where you can find your grandfather hanging out with his "barkada" (gang) playing chess or debating with the barber and his customers about the latest news on TV and radio. The "sosyal" (more socially upscale) go to bars or Starbucks. Whether they be the "sosyal" or the "masa" a "Tambayan" is a place to just chill with friends and talk about something and nothing.
This page is my "tambayan." Tambay Kalye is my personal venue that gives me the freedom to post mostly random pictures of people, places and things "out there." I also hope to be able to talk or discuss somethings and nothing.
Thanks for dropping by and although this is still under construction, I hope you enjoy the pages. Check out my Gallery and leave a comment if you liked anything.
